Wearable Art Part 1 – Shu’s Shoes : Boho
Posted by shucolat on 11 September, 2007
These shoes are actually not mine – they belong to a friend. I got an sms one fine day out of the blue, saying I could make some money from painting her shoes. I jumped at the chance to paint someone’s shoes. Why didn’t I think of it earlier? Well, I did actually, but there never really was any impetus to make me get down to buying a pair of canvas shoes to paint on and digging out my old acrylics from the store room. I even had to research and test whether the paint is suitable for canvas… I didn’t want to screw up my friend’s pair of Everlast shoes (note, this is not an advertisement for Everlast
) Hence I bought a pair of shoes to “test” on. That pair will be posted up shortly, maybe in a week or two… Meanwhile, here is the pair I painted for her. Judging by how much time and money I spent on the overheads, one would guess that I made a loss out of this transaction, but this was a “labour of love” and money was not really an issue…
My friend asked for a design that “could be shamelessly colourful” and “gypsy.” I wouldn’t normally paint so many different colours together, but that was how she wanted it… after seeing it, she described it as “trippy,” and so I hope you feel trippy after looking at these shoes
Acrylic on canvas.

could we consider it an even exchange based on mutual interests? (hehe) i don’t recall saying that i wanted it to be “trippy”, but then again i might have. you know whenever i stare at them, the word “trippy” does come to mind. quite a bit of compliments so far – “i have been staring at your shoes since this morning”, “damn nice”, “i like your shoes”, “nice shoes” etc. they get more attention then i do! (nice photography by the way)

hi Fingerjuice…
)
yeah, thanks to my brother for the photography… (leave it to the professionals
oh yah.. i think you only said they were trippy after i painted the shoes.. so you didn’t exactly ask for them to be trippy. apologies… i shall correct the statement.
anyway, thanks for the compliments… they’re your shoes now… glad they can make you a little happier…

*deflects compliments*
hehe.. glad u’re motivated to design ur own shoes. but be careful what medium u use for ur shoe ok.. coz i mixed a textile medium to the acrylics to make it permanent. acrylics itself are quite durable already i think… just be careful lah.. it’s gotta be waterproof or the colours will run…
